Important Notice Regarding Timely Renewal of Passports

Important Notice Regarding Timely Renewal of Passports

  1. The Consulate General has been receiving calls and messages from a number of Nepali nationals residing in the UAE who are worried about having to pay fines due to delay in renewal of visa for the reason of expiration or near-expiry of their passports. They have been requesting us to expedite delivery of their renewed passports for which they submitted applications in September and October, 2025. Due to the heavy printing load currently at the Department of Passports in Kathmandu, passports for the enrollment at this Consulate General only up to September 09 have been printed and received at the Consulate General this week, and are now being distributed. This means that, even under the current difficult situation at the Department of Passports, except for a few applications requiring correction of technical errors, the applicants have received their new passports within the two months of their application. Considering the urgency of the applicants who need passports for visa renewal, essential travel, and other necessary purposes — including newborns, those who have lost their passports, and those with damaged passports — the Consulate General is making every effort to obtain the next batch of printed passports as soon as possible.

  2. In general, for visa processing, most countries require that a passport be valid for at least six months. Therefore, all Nepali nationals residing in Dubai and other northern Emirates of the UAE are advised to check the validity of their passports. If the validity period is less than six months, they are requested to apply for renewal in a timely manner. Submitting a renewal application in time helps minimize the risk of visa fines and other potential difficulties, even if printing and delivery take sometimes longer time due to technical or situational reasons.

  3. The Consulate General sincerely requests all Nepali community organizations and media-persons to help disseminate this important message — especially among the large number of Nepalis residing here for employment — regarding the importance of renewing passports in time. After all, it is our shared goal that no Nepali should face hardships due to delay in passport renewal. You are all informed that booking online appointment in this Consulate General for passport enrollment has been made easy.

  4. The Consulate has also received complaints that some typing centers, even when a client’s passport is nearing expiry, have been keeping the passport on hold for several days after being requested for the service of filling out the pre-enrollment form for passport renewal. Holding clients’ passports in this manner is inappropriate and illegal; and all concerned are informed not to engage in such practices.

  5. Complaints have also been received stating that some employers/sponsors keep in their possession the passports of their employees and either neglect the renewal of those passports or fail to make the passports available to the employees in time for renewal. It is hereby reminded that assisting and facilitating the timely renewal of passports of the employees is the duty and responsibility of the concerned employer/sponsor.

  6. For further information or assistance related to passports, individuals may contact the Consulate General through Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, phone (during office hours), or email. The Consulate General endeavors to respond in a timely manner to all queries and requests received through any of these channels.
